Happy Merdeka!!

City Under Siege has got to be the crappiest movie I've watch so far for year 2010. Some patrons even left mid way through the movie. Gosh...I'm surprised I can sit through the whole movie....(*shakes head and laughing in disbelief)
The Expendables, on the other hand, is surprisingly good. Lots of humourous lines, lots of body parts flying every, lots of explosion despite a cast full of errmmm..aged actors.

In the spirit of Merdeka, I thought it will be nice to embrace the propaganda of 1Malaysia. So I wished Happy Merdeka to the cashiers/salepersons I met today only to get surprised looks from some. Hmmm...

Anyway, Happy Merdeka everyone...

Julie & Julia

Tagline:Passion. Ambition. Butter. Do You Have What It Takes?

I just watched the movie and I loved it so much...
It's a movie about Julie Powell, an ordinary married woman hitting 30s. Her job sucks and she feels that she needs that ooomph in her life, thus, she started a quest. Following her passion in cooking, she attempts to cook 524 recipes from a cook book in 365 days. And her inspiration, Julia Child, the author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. And Julie documented her journey daily in her blog.
I just love the storyline. Somehow, I feel like Julie. Day in day out, she hates sitting in her cubicle and her job, until one day she summons up the courage and took her first step towards something she is passionate about. And voila, it changed her life.

Synopsis from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135503/plotsummary:
Julia Child and Julie Powell - both of whom wrote memoirs - find their lives intertwined. Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

The Last Airbender

I can't help but laugh throughout The Last Airbender movie. And by the end of the movie, all I can say is, 'I cannot accept it lor' -> translate to Cantonese. There are so many cheesy lines and the characters do not really fit in.
Imagine a Commander Zhao potrayed by Aasif Mandvi (who?)
and Princess Yue is played by Seychelle Gabriel (who?)
WTH!

The cast members are all unknown faces except for a few.
The movie is actually based on a hugely successful Nickelodeon animated series. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, I wouldn't recommend this movie. I feel like being conned by the trailer lor....
Quite disappointed. :(
And expect a sequel soon...

Friday the 13th

Tomorrow is....Friday the 13th...

According to Wikipedia:

Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on a Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of bad luck. In the Gregorian calendar, this day occurs at least once, but at most three times a year. Any month's 13th day will fall on a Friday if the month starts on a Sunday.

The fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia (try pronuncing this), frigga, meaning "Friday" and triskaidekaphobia, or paraskevidekatriaphobia (or this), a word derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή, meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς, meaning "thirteen"), attached to phobía (φοβία, from phóbos, φόβος, meaning "fear"). The word was derived in 1911 and first appeared in a mainstream source in 1953.

Vicissitude

I've not come across this word until last Sunday in Penang and then again on Monday in the newspaper. So, just though of sharing it...

Vicissitude
1. variation or mutability in nature or life, esp successive alternation from one condition or thing to another
2. a variation in circumstance, fortune, character, etc.

Ambitions?

When I was 8, the teacher would asks us, what do we want to be when we grow up. My answer then would be - a teacher. Cannot blame me as that is the profession I know best as I've just started school. And I am glad in a way that I did not pursue in that profession. I cannot imagine myself being a teacher.

When I was 12, I wanted to be a veterinarian. My priority each day after school is to play with the puppies behind my house. I am indeed very much into animals then and still is now.I wanted to know more of them and to be able to help them when they are sick.

When I was 17, I begin to explore. The adventurous side of me is growing. I wanted to see the world. And thus, I am very much into travelling. I wanted a career in the tourism industry. I dream of travelling the world by being a tour guide.

When I was 18, I was made to choose a field to study in college. First choice is of course, veterinary. Second choice being tourism. But due to some reasons, I am being persuaded to take up computing. And so now, I am stuck in this line. I'm not person who is particularly IT savvy. Put me in programming and networking, I'll be out of the door in no time. But surprisingly, I am still surviving in this industry until now.

Once, when I was so fed up with the IT line, at the age of 26, I thought of pursuing my dreams. I am always curious of what tourims studies is all about. I enrolled myself in the course. And got a diploma with flying colours. But now, the cert is locked somewhere in my drawer.

I dreamt of being a travel writer. I dreamt of exploring the world and learning about animals in different countries. That will definitely be a combo for me.I am green with envy for those who get paid to travel and shae their experiences.

Question:So, why am I still sitting here, in front of the PC, in a comfortable air conditioned office? Why didn't I take the first step?

Answer: I am a coward. I dare not take the plunge and step out of the comfort zone. I have to start from the bottom of the ladder if I were to change career now. I am not willing to take risk. I am scared of the things I have to give up.

And so, that's the pathetic story of my career.

The End.

Floria 2010

It was only 10am in the morning. The weather is sunny, just nice for people who love frolicking in the sun. We arrived at Floria in Precint 2, parked our car and realised that there's already a number of cars and people there.
This is my first time to a flora fest. And I was disappointed. I'm not a flower person (though I love to take photos of those colourful flowers). The weather was hot and humid. We were sweating in no time.
The management should have arranged the exhibitors' booths in a more structured way. The walk way was narrow and when more people started to pour in, I was trying hard to avoid any body contact with the rest of the hot, perspiring people.
Crowd control was bad. We had to queue up to go into a indoor 'Floral Pavilion'. Malaysians, being Malaysians, some are rude and beging to pushed their way through. And I can't help but feel cheated as there was nothing amazing in there. The so call 'Twilight' display was nothing but a dark area with some flickering light bulbs.
(a very tu lan turtle)
I guess the one thing good is I got to spend time with my loved ones. And enjoyed a good lunch at Sister's Lam Yong Tau Foo in Seri Kembangan.

Inspiring

While reading the article, I feel like taking the leap. I'm not sure if it's just me. I've been encountering signs and hints for me to take the plunge. Magazine articles, talks with colleagues, environment @ work...but should I take the risk? Following my dream and passion but earning peanuts? Follow the brain or follow the heart? Sigh...

Different people different lifestyle

I admired people who spend on luxury items. A little envy too. Spending more than a few thousands of Ringgit on a Prada bag or killer pair of Jimmy Choo's stilettos or that sexy BCBG Maxazria dress. Not everyone is willing to depart with that amount of money for designer goods. Not me definitely. It's not that I can't afford it (I can just swipe my card and empty all that month's salary in clearing the debt),but I rather use the money for good food or for travelling.
$398.00
In a way, I'm glad that I am not into branded stuff. They might look so good but I'm still reluctant to spend so much on it. The most expensive bag I got is my laptop backpack which costs about RM200+. LOL. Also, I'm a very fickle-minded person. I want varieties to choose from. What if I got a LV handbag and got tired of it after 2 months? I definitely cannot afford to buy new ones every now and then. So I prefer to stick to cheaper brands so that I can buy a variety of them (NOT a good habit either, but at least it's a LOT cheaper)...

$650.00
Speaking of shopping, I noticed that I can resist the temptations compared to last time. I wanted to buy things but by the end of the day, I just went home empty handed. And I feel proud of myself *pats self on the back*.
Back to the topic, once a colleague told me - 'To have a branded bag is every girl's dream. Is that yours?
$2100.00
Well, different people have different lifestyle.

*cough* unless someone wants to sponsor me, I don't mind getting the items in the pictures above geh *cough*

Sick

I am sick of living my life based on people's expectations. I am sick of thinking too much on what people think of me. I am sick of making myself suffer because I want to make a good impression. For example, in work, sick leave is given for a reason, so who cares if I utilise them once a month? Who gives a shit if I don't take them at all? I'm always punctual to work but thinking of it, am I stupid to follow by the rule if everyone else is not doing the same? Why do I need to work hard to impress others when I am not enjoying what I do? Why do I need to care if people doesn't know me by name even after I've done them a favour? Why do I care so much of taking care other people's feeling? Just so sick of it. Wish I can run far far away and live the life I want. I want to be selfish. I want to be carefree. Can I?
