Movies, movies and more movies....

Few movies I've watched lately:

Mr Bean
Typical Bean movie...nothing much to comment except that I like the first movie better. Nothing much to expect from this one.Go for it if you need some illogical laughs. Watch out for Spiderman's Green Goblin who potrays a vain, self-admiring director.

Rating : 1 out of 5 (yes, it's that bad)

The returner
Old movie starring Takeshi Kaneshiro. Why it's worth my time? Hehe....who can resist Takashi in black leather, cool sunglasses, extremely cool gun-handling skills and a big bike? *drool* Story about a girl from the future, sent to change history so that war will not occur. And the enemies? Alienation....The plot is a bit funny but hey, Takashi is worth the 2 hours....

Rating: 3 out of 5 (just because of Takashi)

Music and lyrics
First thing that came to my mind....Gosh, Hugh Grant is old. And errmmm....I cannot see or feel the chemistry between him and Drew Barrymore. The song at the beginning "Pop goes my heart" is entertaining though...And you can see Grant singing and strutting his cute dance moves but he's a tad too old for it.

Rating: 3 out of 5 (for the catchy tunes and beautiful love song)

Stranger than fiction
Cool movie...I'm beginning to like Will Ferrell. This movie is something diferrent from the normal movie and it's touching in the end. I almost thought that it will not be a happy ending...but the way they twist it, it's touching.

Rating: 3 out of 5

300
A feast for the eyes (well, except for the head-choppings and blood splashing here and there). The CG is so nice, it's like watching a PS2 game in action. Men in tights with six-packs (errmmm some even 8?) are nice to watch....Heheh...And at some parts, we are the only one who are laughing in the cinema. We found it funny somehow especially the elephants' part and the Persians with their magic....

Rating: 4 out of 5

Shooter
Another typical US conspiracy movie....Nothing much to anticipate from it...All pretty well plotted and fans of Mark Walhberg will definitely watch it. Sniping is fun....And more fun if you get a head-shot....:)

Rating: 2 out of 5

The Reaping
I've read of the 10 biblical plagues before but I can't really remember all of them and now, it's all in my head. The movie is not bad. You will like it if you are into movies about cult and signs from God and Hillary Swank....Hehe...Scientific explanations for all the miracles that had happened, even for the 10 plagues. A phrase I remembered from the movie- 'The only miracle is people keep believing'. But towards the end, the movie becomes a bit fake....With firestorm and stuff, it looks like a scene from 'The Day after Tomorrow'.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Can't wait for the months to come....so many good movies lining up - Spidey3, POTC, Shrek3, Oceans 13, RE 3: Extinction....

I have ganglion cyst on my wrist......

I was quite worried also when it appear two weeks back. Size of a small red bean. It's at the place where people normally cut their wrist in attempt of suicide. No worries, it's benign and hopefully will disappear over time. Taken from Wikipedia...

A ganglion cyst (also known as a bible bump) is a swelling that often appears on or around joints and tendons in the hand. The exact cause of the formation of ganglion cysts is still unknown but they are thought to be due to a degeneration of the fibrous tissue surrounding joints leading to a cystic structure. They occur most often in the 20–60 age group and are three times more common in females. They are benign but need to be differentiated from more serious conditions. They contain clear fluid similar to synovial fluid (a clear, lubricating, viscous fluid found in the synovial cavity of joints). One traditional method of treating a ganglion cyst was to strike the lump with a large, heavy book. And since even the poorest households usually possessed a Bible, that was what they used, which is how ganglion cysts came to be nicknamed "Bible Bumps" or sometimes "Gideon's Disease." This method of treatment is no longer recommended as patients risk damage to the surrounding area.

Doctor advised me not to use the wrist part so much...hmmm....

the 3C rule

Has anyone heard of the 3Cs rule?I was having lunch with a colleague and it was the first time I heard of it when he mentioned it.

First you try Convince them, if you can't then you attempt to Confuse them and if all else fails, you try to Con them.

Wakakkakaka......

Of Easter, Ching Ming and F1

Today is Easter Sunday. Christians around the world observed Holy week since last Sunday, starting with Palm Sunday, then Good Friday and today, Easter Sunday. It's a remembrance of the resurrection of Christ, which his followers believe occurred on the third day after his death by crucifixion.

This week is also the Ching Ming week, observed by the Chinese. These two weeks, we can see people thronging the graves of their ancestors, cleaning it and burning offerings to the departed. It's really amazing seeing all the paper offerings nowadays. Everything we have in the real world, we can find a paper replica of it to be burnt. From handphones, branded clothes (yes, they do have GUESS, Crocodile), accessories, tech stuff...you name it, it can be done.

Whatever festival it is, it does serve the purpose of bringing the family together....

No offense to F1 fanatics out there. But I really do not understand what's the pleasure of spending money and bearing the hot sun, just to watch fast cars zooming past when you can watch it in the comfort of your living room, and not to metion having a clearer view of the circuit? Guess, it's the same as why I would spend an amount of money going to Lee Hom's concert when I can watch it on DVD....hehehe...

Anyway, I am not a fan of F1. As much as I would like to learn to love it, I can't feel the excitement in it. Well, just heard that Fernando Alonso won the Malaysian Grand Prix....

That's what friends are for by Dionne Warwick

To my dearest friends....

And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe
I love you

And if I should ever go away
Well, then close your eyes and try to feel
The way we do today
And then if you can remember

Keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well, you came and opened me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

Whoa, and then for the times when we're apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
These words are comin' from my heart
And then if you can remember, oh

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
Oh, that's what friends are for

Whoa... oh... oh... keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, oh, for sure'
Cause I tell you that's what friends are for
For good times and for bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for (That's what friends are for)

On me, for sure
That's what friends are for
Keep smilin', keep shinin'

Cruelty...

It's not my intention to spoil your day but pictures shown below are real situations happening everyday in our neighbourhood. I saw this advertisement by PAWS in The Star. It says:

"Life is a cruel game. Indeed, for millions of abandoned, tortured and diseased animals roaming the streets.
At PAWS, we help these cats and dogs start anew. We shelter, treat and vaccinate them. Then, we feed them with food and attention that they've been deprived of.
Sadly, we're also the same people who have to put them to sleep. The truth of the matter is, when overpopulation encroaches into the boundaries of space and means, we do what we must.
Help us make a difference. You can start by neutering your pet. It's the first step in reducing the overpopulation of stray animals. You'll also be doing Little Jimbo a favour, by adding a few hearty years to his life.
If you don't have a pet, PAWS is great place to start looking. Neutered and vaccinated, all they need is a loving home.
Of course, we also welcome volunteers and donationations in kind.
After all, at PAWS, our dream isn't to see these animals dead, but to give them a new life."

It shows a picture of an old man hugging a cute puppy. It really strike a chord in me.

I browse the SPCA site regularly to see their upcoming events. Read some news and saw some heart breaking pictures. Why do we need to do this to the animals that are suppose to be our pets? Man's best friend? If, in the first place you do not have the intention to care and love them, then do not own them. It is so sad to see owners treat the dogs as shown in the pictures below.

Some of them still can be saved but some are just too wounded that nothing can be done anymore. Please, love the animals as how we love ourselves and the people we care about.
