Waited almost 1.5 hours, no dinner, only Starbucks Latte Mocha while waiting...Worth it? Hmmm.....Definitely.
8 big scoops of Haagen Dazs....That's the most I can eat at one time. I think if we stayed there a little longer, I can add 2 more scoops....*blink*blink*....There goes the diet plan for the month.

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th helpings...Hehehehe.......

Cinta

I watched one of the most touching Malay movie I have seen in years..(well, not that I watched a lot of local films before). The recent one that I remember are Puteri Gunung Ledang and Sepet.

Yesterday night, as I was browsing through the channels, there's this movie that caught my attention - Cinta. There's not a lot of good local movies around but I think this is one that's worth your 2 hours. In short, Cinta is a film comprising of 10 stars, and 5 love stories.

The story that really made me cry, is the one about an old retired teacher, who has Alzheimer's. The character is potrayed by Dato' Rahim Razali, a familiar face on TV since the local stations were established. Below is the synopsis taken for this story from their site.

"Age does not diminish one’s capacity for love or need for companionship. The marching of time has not been kind to Elyas (Dato’ Rahim Razali), a retired schoolteacher. But despite illness and age, Rubiah (Fatimah Abu Bakar), a compassionate and kind woman sees Elyas’ dignity and spirit shining through. Can you recognise the face of it, even if you have no memory of it? Does love have to end in your advancing years?"

Everyday, this old man wakes up and will go through the same routine. Because of Alzheimer,he doesn't even recognizes his grandson, who is the only person taking care of him.Many times, he will end up somewhere he doesn't know, and he still look for old friends who are no longer alive anymore. Till a point when the grandson has no other alternative but to send him to old folk's home. A good Samaritan, a lady in the neighbourhood, who owns a stall the old man visits everyday, decided to take care of him for life.

Cinta- a movie about love. It made me realise, how much do we care and love and till what extend that we are willing to sacrifice for the people we love? Sometimes in life, we are given that second chance to make things right, and sometimes we won't get any chance anymore. One of the story in it says - the most important thing is to see the person you love happy, even if you can't be with them. To those who have found love, treasure them and to those who feels alone at times, always keep in mind that there are many people who care and love you if you let them to.

Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

Bali oh bali....

I didn't know that 90% of the population in Bali are Hindus, that Bali has a few active volcanic mountains and that Bali has lots and lots of temples and shrines and they all look the same....:P....If you've seen one or two, you've seen the rest....

Well, our trip to Bali was great fun. Started with a hearty McD breakfast (seems to be our fave everywhere we go) at LCCT and eagerly waited for our flight. On board, a bunch of very active family were making hell a lot of noise. Talkative little girls and adults playing chor dai dee ....And we were on the same flight coming back to KL as well...

Upon reaching, we were greeted by Made (holding a board which read - Ho Kee Fong and family....:), our driver and guide for the next 2 days. He's a bit too quiet for a guide. But he's not bad....And we gave him RP100,000 as tip at the end of the trip.

We checked in to Oasis Kuta. Despite negative comments found on the web, the hotel is not that bad at all. Most impressive is the swimming pool surrounded by the rooms. Just that the bathroom and toilet is a bit old and dirty. The rooms are big, can fit 3 people confortably...

After our welcome drinks, we walked to Kuta beach in front of Hard Rock Cafe....The waves are a bit too strong to swim and it's suitable for surfing. Along the way, most of the shops are selling branded apparels like Rib Curl and Versace. We're so undecided what to eat for lunch so we settled for McD...again....:P Dinner time was at Jimbaran with the sunset view. But the food was not up to our expectations.....Maybe we went to the wrong restaurant. The environment was nice though with a band singing songs in different languages and the sand underneath your feet. First night was pretty much quiet....Walked around Kuta again and went for a Balinese massage. First experience and I am sure it will be an experience to remember as it was te first time I got my boobs massage..by the masseur, of course. It was really a full body massage with only our undies on. :P

Our second day started early and Made was waiting for us after breakfast at about 830am. First stop was at Batubulan for a cultural show. Paid a freaking RM20 for the 1 hour show. It was quite a waste of time. But then, at least we saw a Brad Pitt look-a-like there. Then, we're off to Batuan temple. Nothing much to shout about, an old temple with lots of weird looking statues.
Went to Goa Gajah next. What fascinated me most was the big big tree in the middle of the place. The next hour took us into Kintamani, with the spectacular view of Mount Batur and Lake Batur. It's still an active volcano. The annoying thing is once you stepped out of the van, locals will come to you with souvenirs and keep bugging you to buy. We had lunch there with the view of the mountain. Then off to Ubud. We passed by Monkey Forest but chose not to stopover. En route, there are numerous shops selling beautiful crafts from silver, wood, glass....Really beautiful sight along the way. We reached Ubud market and that's where we showed off our bargaining skills. Every price they offered, you shoud reduce it by 50%. After much bargaining, it's time to call it a day and we went back to Kuta to rest and dine. Oh ya....on the way back, we bought Dirty Duck, one of Bali's famous dish. Errrmmm...tasted quite nice but not much meat and it's a bit pricey for a duck that size.

The third day started off at the same time. Initial plan was to go Sanur and Nusa Dua area but we skipped that and detour to Uluwatu as I really wanted to go there. And the detour is worthwhile....Although I got dizzy on the way there as the roads are winding. Before reaching Uluwate, Made brought it to Padang Padang beach. A secluded small beach with soft and white sand. The view here is great too. Uluwatu's view is mesmerizing. Temple on the cliffs and clear blue and greenish sea below. The sound of the waves hitting the cliffs.....Sigh....Sight to behold. Then, we went uphill to Bedugul for two lake landscape - Buyan and Tamblingan stopping by to savour another famous local dish, Babi Guling. Next visit was to Taman Ayun, which was one of UNESCO Heritage site. Too bad I can't go in as it is prohibited for women having the monthly routine to step into the temple to preserved it's purity. :( After spending some time cam-whoring there, it's a long journey to Tanah Lot, just in time to make it for the beautiful sunset. The view here is way nicer than Jimbaran. There's a unique temple just beside the sea and there's a night bazaar too. But we were rushing back and didn't stop at any stall...except for the jagung stall...After taking showers, we dined at the restaurant just next to our hotel and went back for drinks after some window shopping in Hard Rock.

The last day was spent lazing around Kuta beach. Walking miles down the sandy beach and watching yummy hunks and sexy girls in bikinis. Hehe...and there are some ugly sights of 'Michelin' people. Anyway, it was a relaxing morning and I wish I can stay longer. And we had another McD meal in the airport.....Hehe....

So, overall, it was a very nice trip and with a group of 'youthful' people. Summary of this trip - lots of time in the van;lots of sightseeings (temples, beaches); lots of cute Japananese girls and guys (hunky guys- Brad Pitt look-a-like); tried new drinks - bloody mary, margarita, irish cream coffee, coco moon; tasted new food - dirty duck and babi guling (don't ask me why they are named like that);lots of 18SX souvenirs (unfortunately I didn't buy any) and lots of fun and cam-whoring.

Bali - we'll be BACK......

I love Sunday

It was an interesting Sunday last weekend. Bukit Gasing in the morning....Must try trekking 2 rounds next time....Followed by our dose of breakfast at the local mamak. As usual, it's either roti canai or tosai, Malaysia's favourite breakfast.
Had lunch at Quan's Coffee and Ice Cream house in Pandan Indah. I found a new place to bring you guys next time. The food is not bad at all and the environment is nice. Too bad I didn't bring my camera. We ordered Fried Mee Sua, Buttered Prawn rice (Lai Yao) and Fried Abolone Mushroom. Buttered prawn is yummy....
Then, went all the way to Shah Alam's Xian Leng's Aquarium. Didn't know there's such a big aquarium here...Learnt a few tips of how to spot a good arowana and sting ray, thanks to my personal guide....:P
What intrigued me most are the big fishes like Arapaima Gigas, one of the biggest freshwater fish and the Mekong catfish. I have seen Arapaima before and is still very fascinated by it.

Gum pain, sorethroat and a crime

Came back from Bali........More updates on the trip later....
Terrible terrible gum pain at my wisdom tooth leading to a terrible terrible sorethroat these 2 days...
Decided to take half day to pay a visit to the dentist.
As I was walking past the shoplots, noticed that a few people arguing and then, a guy tried to run away. Few people chased him and tore off his shirt. Then, out of no where, someone fired a gun. I was shocked and everyone around was dashing inside the shops. Luckily I was just outside the dentist's shop. Didn't know what happened after that but a lot of people came out and gathered around. I guess it should be police chasing after a criminal. That's enough action for the day.
Hmmm...As for my tooth, needs to be extracted 1 week from now. Just normal extraction and no minor surgery needed. Thank God for that.
And to that someone who owes me a meal, I can still claim it after my tooth extraction ya....Be prepared. Hehe....

But I have tried. My motivation of running? I have no idea. Maybe the feeling of satisfaction in the end after you have pushed yourself to keep on running and running....

Balut

A balut is a fertilized duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. It has been 50 years....Maybe to us younger generation, the term Merdeka does not mean much but to our parents, they can talk hours and hours on the struggle back then. We all should be thankful to live in Malaysia, beautiful country with so many different cultures, races, and foooodddd.....Let's hope that we'll live in peace for another 50 years to come....Happy Birthday Malaysia.....

I always think that my mum is really one good chef. After 26 years of having her dishes, there is none that I do not like (well, except for those with bittegourd and brinjal)...My resolution this year is to learn cooking from her but until now, sad to say I have not achieved anything. Another 4 months left of 2007. I will try my best to learn as much as possible.....

Chilli's revisited

Main reason for a second round of Chilli's - Chocolate Molten cake.....
It was Foong Ling's birthday and we decided that it's time to indulge in the most delicious moist chocolate cake....I'll let the pictures do the talking....With bottomless drinks and unlimited chips, it's really a way to indulge....Even the lamb shank's bone went home with us....:P

Tasted some weird kind of coffee lately - Coffee float (kopi o with vanilla ice cream) and coffee with barley....Both tasted....weird...

Lei Cha - Hakka Food

Have you heard of Lei Cha? It literally means grounded tea in Hakka. One of my mum's favourite food, it is hard to get a good Lei Cha nowadays. I do not like the taste that much. Its ingredient are peanuts, long bean, dried tau hu,sesame and vege, all cut to small cube size and mixed with rice. Then, there is the grounded vege soup that you need to add to the rice. It's a very healthy meal but i doubt many of us younger generation will like it....
