Ecoworld Starlight Concert 2015

It was quite an impromptu decision to go to the Starlight Concert organised by Ecoworld. I knew about it when it was published in the newspaper much earlier but I didn't really wanted to go as it's free standing. I think I am too old for the crowd. LOL...
Well, anyway, I got my ticket from Homaniacs. And at first I thought of going alone as I only have one ticket. Then when CY said she wanted to join, I might as well try my luck and got 4 tickets from EcoWorld sales gallery. And that's just a week before the event.
So, last Saturday, 31st Jan, we had a satisfying dinner of hokkien mee at Bandar Mahkota Cheras before braving the traffic to Semenyih. It was one of the longest traffic I've been in all my life. Two- and-a-half freaking hours. CY's car almost gave way due to overheating but luckily we are near to our destination at that time. Many a times we wanted to turn back but the destination seemed so near.
When we reach there about 9-ish, we were worried that the show might be ending soon. It didn't help either when the place we were allowed to park is so far away from ground zero. No sound, no lights from as far as we can hear and see. Luckily, shuttle buses were provided. I really love how they are so well organised. Frequent buses in a few stations all over Eco Majestic to ferry people to the event ground. And the whole place is huge.
So we go there just in time for him. Yes, him. Lee Hom (pic courtesy of Homaniacs).

It was worth the long butt-numbing drive. It was worth the hours wasted in the car. We were so near to the front of the stage and could see him clearer than paying for his concerts. He sang quite a number of songs, giving the best performances, as he always does. We were ecstatic.
All in all, it was a birthday present to me...well, sort of.
Anyway, kudos the the EcoWorld team for making it a huge successful event. Do visit their new township in Semenyih. Looks really nice. 

Volunteering is fun!

It was my first time volunteering with World Vision and I am quite impressed. The event was well organised. From the program on the day, to crowd control to the volunteers' welfare, everything is well taken care of. Kudos to the team for managing the event well.

I've always had a thing for events management. I like to plan and get everything perfectly in place. I couldn't help thinking if I can just forego my current job and join World Vision in setting up charity events and booth and visiting sponsored children around the world...Sigh, wishful thinking

I've met some very unique people on that day. Some are really dedicated and enthusiatic on their given tasks, some are less, some are very outspoken on what they want and some are very passionate in helping others.

It was an eye opening event. Not only on the day's event but also on the objectives of World Vision.
It's very heart wrenching to see some videos on how some children have to live their lives. We are indeed very fortunate to have what we have now.

A Wedding That Will Move You

I think this is very touching and it deserves a post here.

Happy Merdeka!!! *though it came 3 days late*
And happy birthday hubby! Merdeka boy...haha

So, we had our free movie in Pavillion - The Conjuring, is our choice. Yeah, watching a horror movie on his birthday is not really ideal. I've been bugging him to watch this based on the good reviews and to support our own Malaysian born director, James Wan. It was indeed a pretty good movie, not too much of *screams in horror* scenes though, well, not like what we've expected.
And we all stood up to sing Negaraku before the movie starts. It's a first for me.

We went for a buffet dinner at Chatz Brasserie, Park Royal. I remembered that this used to be one of the best high tea and buffet I've had. It's either my taste bud changed or there's a drop in their food quality and selections. It's rather disappointing for the price we paid. Selections are very limited and not too good tasting too.

Food aside, we had a great time. Just enjoying the environment and observing (*ahem*bitching***) about other people.

One year

One year since...

Happy anniversary dear. Remember how many meals you owe me hor? :P

Post birthday...

Officially 3.2 this year...The number scares me. 

Hard to believe that I'm my age now. Sigh...Still so many things to do, still feel so insecure in a way, still feel so childish sometimes...Maybe it's time to grow up?

But one thing for sure, I count my blessings for being surrounded by wonderful people. People whom I've grown to love more and more over the years and many more years to come. 

I am blessed with wonderful friends, and I truly agree that having a few who sticks by you in your worse situation is better than having hundreds of 'so-called' friends.

Thanks gals and hopefully we can carry out our 'plan' as per discussed.

Lee Hom concert 2012

If there is another concert at Stadium Merdeka, I would consider twice before buying the tickets. I like everything about the concert (especially Lee Hom of course!) but the location sucks big time. I don't know about others but I prefer it to be in Putra or National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Reasons:
1. There's no cover. If it rains, we are given rain coat but it's inconvenient to fully enjoy in the rain.

2. Plastic chairs are placed on the grass field. If it rains, imagine how muddy and dirty the field gets. Our shoes are all covered in mud. :(

3. I keep getting little crawlies (ants) crawling up my legs.....uurrrggghhh...

4. Getting out of the stadium is a chaos. Only so few exits and people are pushing to get out.

5. Limited parking. With the closure of one the open air car parks nearby, there are not many slots available. In the end, we parked at the roadside, paid the 'illegal' parking attendant and we got a summon when we got back. WTH....if you know that's there's an event, why can't the police give an exception?! It's not our fault that there's no proper and sufficient parking space....

6. Not a single traffic police was to be seen to direct traffic after the concert. We waited about 1.5 hrs just to get out of the area. Instead of so being so 'hardworking' issuing us summons, why not be there to control the traffic when we needed it most??

7. Our seating is so far away.With the same price, we get a way better view if it's in Putra Indoor Stadium.

Sigh....

This somehow, dampens the mood of the concert. Furthermore, I'm not feeling that well over the weekend. But then, Lee Hom's performance is still as good as always.

This is supposed to be last night's post but I was too tired because of my runny nose. WTH, I thought after getting a flu jab two weeks back, I won't be so easily sick...:(

It's the 3rd Lou Sang session this year and it's with a bunch of old friends. I'm very happy and grateful to be still in touch with the 'old kids' from school days....Hope to be doing this for many more years counting...

As tradition has it (within my family that is), every second day of the Chinese New Year is our open house. Close relatives gather and have a feast (what's new during CNY)...My mum will wake up way early in the morning to cook and prepare all the dishes. I've been the little kitchen helper for many years. Mum still cannot trust me with the wok...So, what's cooking this year? Have a look...

Smarter flyer, I am.

How many of us actually pay attention to the air steward/stewardess (unless they're pretty and handsome) when they do the safety briefing? How many of us will actually know how to operate the aircraft door in case of emergency and the cabin crew is not available? How many of us actually know how it feels like being in pitch dark environment filled with smoke?

I had the privilege of experiencing this today through the MAS smart flyer safety training. It was well worth spending the whole day at the MAS training academy.

The day started with a couple of hours of classroom training where we were briefed on all the safety precautions on board. We were then ushered to a room where we got the chance to perform CPR. Do you know the 5 basic steps of CPR? Just remember DR ABC.
D- Danger : make sure that you and victim are not near any danger
R- Respond : call and tap on shoulders of victim - if there is no respond, immediately call for help
A- Airway : Tilt chin back, push forehead, check for breathing
B- Breathing : Pinch nose, maintain head tilt, give two full breath
C- Circulation : Place one heel of hand in the middle of the chest, lock hands and give 30 check compressions

After CPR, we head down to the 'smoke' house. This is where we got the chance to extinguish fire. Two very important things to remember - aim at the base of the fire and do not hold the gas cylinder as you risk getting your hands frozen. After the 'hot' session, we then have to find our way out through pitch black and smoke.

The most interesting and fun part is jumping out of the aircraft. Yes, with the inflatable slide of course. We were taught on how to open the door in case of emergency. And then jumping out. It was really scary looking down the slide but after a couple of times, it is fun! Well, of course, you do not want to be in a real situation where you have to actually do the slide.

Last session is the swimming drill. We learnt how to inflate the life jacket, how to stay warm in a group in the water and how to attract attention when rescuer are near.

It was a very good training (with our pretty and ever so funny trainers) but of course, I hope I will not be in the situation where I have to apply what I have learnt. After all, they say flying is the safest mode of transportation. :P

2011

DECEMBER. My favourite month of the year.

Christmas songs playing, malls decorated elaborately for the occasion, people going on long leave, school holidays, which means less jam during peak hours. 

How time flies! I felt like it was only yesterday that I stepped into year 2011. It has been a fruitful and exciting year. I am feeling melancholic eventhough there's still a month left of this year.

It's still early in the month of December but I feel like writing about what a great year it has been. Blogging doesn't come easy nowadays. Maybe it's the lack of time or it's just plain lazy.

2011 - I travelled a lot this year. On and off to Melbourne, to some cuti-cuti Malaysia locations and to New Zealand (twice!) which I had the best holiday there, so far. Sad to say, the excitement of travelling alone is not there anymore. The adventurous me is dying! :( I still love travelling and exploring new places, just that I crave companionship.

Workwise, it has been a challenging year. Completed a project life cycle! yay! Nothing to feel excited about actually. It's a never ending learning process. Ups and downs, feeling motivated at times and feeling so low at another, I feel like giving up. Well, new year, new projects, new challenges. Hopefully, I will survive another year. 

On a personal note, big plans in store for next year. And I don't even know if I am ready for it, honestly. It's just a very mixed up feeling that I can't explain. I just let nature takes it's course...

here fishy fishy....

A day before I flew to Melbourne, I had my first experience ...in a fish spa. I have this voucher for a free 30 mins fish spa at Kenko.


I walked into Kenko in Pavillion, feeling gungho, where else, my dear is a bit reluctant. We are brought to wash our feet first with some soap. We chose a good place to sit and I began to feel a bit scared. There were so many fishes there...as small as half of my pinky finger and as big as twice the size of my index finger.

I feel so ticklish when they started to nibble my feet. Somehow, I didn't manage to attract a lot of fishes compared to him. He said it might be the soap smell that attracts them but I think it's because he got more dead cells. The fishes were swarming towards him. It took a while for them to come to me. I couldn't stand when the bigger fishes nibble on me....

After about 20 minutes, we decided to switch to the bigger pond with BIGGER fishes. And bigger means really big fishes...bigger than the normal ikan kembung we see in the wet market. And these are a bunch of aggresive fish. No joking...(think piranha)...The moment your feet touches the water, all of them will be swarming towards them. I cannot even hold my feet down for 10 seconds as it was tooooooooo ticklish. I admire dear because he can stand the big fishes. We left Kenko with softer feet and it feels so light to walk.

Will I try it again? Hmmm....

it's important to eat breakfast

It was one early Saturday morning. Had to wake up early for a pre-employment medical check-up in KLCC. We parked our car at an open air parking near Ampang Park because it's cheaper. I was rather hungry as I had to fast the night before. Cracking our brains on what to eat, when I saw the place, I knew that I wanted a good, sumptious meal of nasi kandar for breakfast. I can't wait for the check up to finish (*hopes the doctor didn't hear my stomach growling*). Immediately after that, we walked towards Nasi Kandar Pelita. It was barely 10am but the place is already crowded. People from all races were enjoying a good old plate of nasi kandar with the variety of curry and meat. I really enjoyed mine. I still prefer nasi lemak anytime but I guess it's who you're eating with that matters. It was a wonderful morning with my dear and a plate of nasi kandar+ayam goreng+mutton curry+vege+ teh ais. *burppp*

Volunteering

Few weeks ago, I volunteered for a Pacemakers event. Despite a bad experience in my first time volunteering in a running event, I was lured to join this time by my friends.

However, this time, it turned out to be fun. Though I was stationed alone, with a red flag, I got many people  (aunties and uncles) approaching me and asking questions. The venue this time was at Metropolitan Park, Kepong.

I like the surrounding here but my sister said sometimes the place smells of rubbish as there's a dumpsite nearby.

And again, the day will not be complete without a hearty breakfast @ Ful Lai, Manjalara.

I've been having itchy hands lately...I wanted to learn baking and making snacks. So, whenever there's free time at home, I'll search for some simple recipe to try out...

Mixed fruit cake - didn't really work out. Too dry.

Death by chocolate - too sweet and moist.

Fried bread with fillings - yummylicious. Filled with butter, cheese, mixed vege, cheesy hotdog, mustard and tomato sauce.

Sui gao - mum thought me this...her cooking is always delicious.

Serradura - nice but not yet perfect.

Everytime, I realise, I failed to clean up. Thanks mum for always washing and cleaning up the mess I made in your kitchen. I guess i fulfilled one of my resolution for this year. This is a life time learning. My mum is always a good cook. Gotta spend more time and learn from her.
